Children Ministry Pastor
Vancouver Chinese Evangelical Free Church (VCEFC)
VCEFC has a weekly attendance of about 500 people across Cantonese, Mandarin, English and Children’s Worship congregations.
Position: Full time – Permanent Annual Salary Range: TBD
We are seeking a pastor who has a heart to teach, care for, and inspire successive generations by working with, training, and equipping a team of dedicated volunteers, as well as encouraging parents in their vital role as loving guides to their children.
Our current children’s ministry serves about 80-100 children from nursery to grade 10. While this is the focal age, it is vital for the Children’s Ministry Pastor to be in strong partnership with the youth ministries of the church, especially paying attention to transitions between departments. Our children’s ministry is a vibrant and critical component of our service to God, the gospel, and the community beyond the church. As such, the role will include developing outreach strategies and systems, plus networking with community organizations as appropriate.
The ministry is currently centred on three main programs: Saturday AWANA (and a one-week summer day camp), 10 AM Sunday Children’s Worship, and 11:30 AM Sunday School—all held in English, and all guided by a seasoned directors. Innovating alongside lay leaders who are passionate about new ministries is an expected part of the role. A growing group of children and an enthusiastic group of volunteers are keen to receive your creative leadership, as is the surrounding neighbourhood with its steadily increasing census of children.
A commitment to following Jesus • A passion to serve God through children’s ministry • An outgoing personality • Excellent communication skills in English • Leadership and administrative gifts • A genuine interest in caring for and developing faith in children • Biblical and ministry training from an evangelical Bible school, seminary or equivalent • Solid children’s ministry experience of at least two years duration, including running training programs for teachers and other leaders, managing child protection policies, and extending the church’s reach into the community • A strong ability to work across cultures • Formal training in educational methods would be an asset
